When my son was born I had ALL the love hormones and spent my time being so grateful at how perfect he was. How I got to experience such an amazing gift.
But …
I also felt overwhelmed at this new responsibility.
What business did I have taking on this mammoth task when I had just gotten my sh*t together?
I knew my childhood wasn’t fairies and unicorns, so I was very clear that I needed to provide a better one… but wait… how do I do that?
Cue anxiety…
Then…
Cue depression…
While dealing with the back and forth around how terrible a mom I was, I missed my life before I became a mom.
Cue guilt…
I knew that something wasn’t right. Something had to change. If this is what motherhood is → why is the messaging around it completely opposite?
So I went on a journey to understand what was going on and why I was, AGAIN, so different.
Here is what I’ve learned →
- Overwhelm is good! It means you deeply care about your new role → you need support
- Coming from childhood trauma (ANY) means you have wounds that need to be healed to break the cycle, BUT it also means you are well equipped to know what should not be done in your new role! → you need to heal
- Knowing that you need to reparent yourself while raising your own child is a huge self-awareness that not many humans have → you need support
- Anxiety is your friend; all it knows is to protect you! → when you heal, you live in harmony
- It’s NORMAL to miss your pre-mom self. It is a loss. Grieve it!
Once healing has taken place and you’re clear on what has impacted you, driven you, and gotten you to this amazing point in your journey → you get to rewrite your journey.
